Description

In 1981, a tripartite organisation was formed with the amalgamation of the police force, fire service and emergency service within the Northern Territory. Renamed the Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services (NTPFES), the Tri-Service was headed by the Commissioner of Police as Chief Executive Officer. The Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services remained unchanged following the 2020 Legislative Assembly election. Change announced by Administrative Arrangements Order (No. 2) 2023 Gazette S74 30 October split the tripartite single agency into 2 agencies with the single Commissioner remaining during the transition period - Northern Territory Police and Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service. Each agency has its own Minister.
